THE GENERAL STORE AND POST OFFICE TAVERN
One of the best locations we've ever come across. This place was once a post office during the 1800's which has been completely renovated and converted to this diner. Enjoy most American classics such as their signature made Chili, Chicken 'n Waffles or the Corndogs that continue to be everyone's favorite. When you ask any of the locals, this is without question the go-to place for amazing, juicy, crispy Fried Chicken! But, as we often have to report on amazing spots such as their existing.. we also have to let you know when they have to close their doors. This just happened to be the case in 2011, when Gilligan Clark's General Store shut down business for good. Unfortunately it seems it was something out of their control and something to do with the landlord which forced them to close down. With today's influx of fast food, big chain spots crowding every intersection across the Nation, it's quite sad to see authentic, family-run spots such as The General Store closing down. There is simply a lack of genuine smiles, fresh quality and overall value in today's restaurants. What we'll also miss is the unique blend of dishes here that you won't find anywhere else.. such as the Sweet Potato Waffles or the Goat Cheese Fritters. It was a rustic spot with centuries of history in the building it was located within. So as we lose another treasure in Silver Spring, we're hopeful other diners can try to fill the void, ASAP!
